Rome, 190 km, the place where the Latin language was born, founded in the year of 753 a.C., it rises on the left shores of the river Tevere and early became an important center of culture, literature, arts and architecture. Cortona, km. 9, is one of the principal tourist and historic places in the center of the territory of Arezzo. The town of Cortona seems to have ancient beginnings and his origin is based on a mysterious surrounding. Based on some legends, Cortona was raised by the hands of the hero Dardano; thanks to him also Troja was founded. However, Crotona’s beginning is certainly located in the years of the splendid Etruscan civilization. In addition it was subdued by the Roman Empire. In this little town it is possible to see the bright history of ancient civilization and to visit architectonical structures like the “Basilica di Santa Margherita”, the museum Diocesano, the museum Dell’Accademia Etrusca and the museum MAEC (arts) or places of interest like the park Archeologico di Cortona. If you are interested in folkloristic traditions, Cortona offers so many events in 2014:

Arezzo, km. 28 was founded by the Etruscans in the begin of their culture. Some discoveries are going back to the stone-age. Arezzo conserved a long history, patrimony and beauties of ample breath. It is possible to visit churches, like Chiesa di San Francesco, where pictures of Piero della Francesca are located, or the church of San Domenico which contains the crucifix of Cimabue. Every Sunday at the begin of a month events and manifestations are taking place and at the preceding Saturday there is along the streets of the town an antique-market, the Fiera antiquaria. A particular historical commemoration is the Giostra del Saracino (Joust of Saracino) that takes place at Piazza Grande from the next to the last Saturday of June at night and at the first Sunday of September during the day. Pienza, km. 40, is probably the community with major tourist importance in the valley of Orcia ( Val d’Orcia). It is located in the territory of Siena, its historical center was declared as patrimony of UNESCO. The square dedicated to Pope Pius II., is a source of history and full of charm, like the cathedral, the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Borgia and Palazzo Piccolomini. A Curious and folkloristic tradition is the Palio del cacao a fuso (Festival of the melted cocoa), a competition between teams which happens every first week in September.

Montalcino, km. 60, is famous for its special wine, the Brunello di Montalcino. The district is also located in the territory of Siena, on the borderline to Grosseto. This village is famous for its vineyards. The grape of Sangiovese also witnesses the production of two other wines: the red wines of Montalcino, and the S. Antimo. The village contains a fortress built in XIII. Century. Well-known between all of its architectures is the church of Sant’Agostino. The central square of Montalcino is named Piazza del Popolo. Principal building is the Palazzo dei Priori which is the town hall.

Gubbio, km 90, a town in Umbria surrounded by mountains, It is located on the lowest slope of Mt. According to folkloristic principal events we propose: the Festa dei Ceri in honour of Saint Patron (it takes place every 15th May of the year) and at the last Sunday in May there will be the historic contest of cross-bow-shooting, in honour of Saint’Ubaldo. On 7th December to 10th January, will be erected a very big Christmas-tree on the top of Monte Ingino.

Selecting between events: on the last Sunday of June the “Festa delle acque” nearby the cascades of Marmore takes place. Near the lake of Piediluco in the hamlet of Cesi, are more theatrical and musical manifestations during the complete month of June. There, nearby the taverns, you can have the typical kitchen of this region. The complete manifestation is called “Giugno Cesano”.

There are countless religious architectures like the Chiesa Collegiata, Pieve di Santa Maria and many others, even Civilian and military architectures and museums. San Gimignano is also wellknown for the production of Vernaccia (Red wine) and for the plantation of saffron. Vernaccia of San Gimignano is one of the finest white wines.
